"Give Thanks” is a phrase Americans use a lot during this season of Thanksgiving. But what does “Give Thanks” mean beyond a popular phrase? For too many people, “Give Thanks” has very little meaning. But for those who believe in God, the phrase should mean a lot.
It should mean, we believe and acknowledge a sovereign almighty God!
It should mean, we are grateful for the good things in our lives and the challenges God has seen us through!
It should mean, we appreciate the good God is working in our lives.
It should mean, we are grateful for Jesus, The Christ and His redemptive power.
It should mean, we always have a friend that is closer than any sibling, even any spouse.
It should mean everything to those who trust God!!!

Let us remember, William Alexander was not just a prosperous gentleman. He was also a deacon. Thus, he gave thanks.
One prayer for this season…Dear God Almighty, continue to bless my family. Show us the way to becoming better people. Help us to be better family members and to know and follow Your Will.
Challenging Times
So often in life we simply need to begin anew. Often after divorce or death, and even when we simply feel the need to change, we seek new beginnings. As I reflect on William Alexander and Abigail, I am greatly encouraged because of who they were. We have their blood and DNA within us. That should give us strength and hope. It was nothing less than a miracle for William Alexander, born a slave, to amass so much wealth in the deep South. Then marry a beautiful younger woman who was born free.
DNA provides strength and talent, but it alone is not enough. Of course, there is a process. All of life is a series of processes. To not engage in life’s processes, is simply to fail. Since failure is not an option, let us understand the process for success. First, one must have faith, then prayer, next is listening, and then doing. In other words, seek God and do what he tells you, be obedient.

Along with the process, is hard work. Anything worth having involves effort. Certainly, William Alexander had many opportunities to give up. Because he didn’t stop, he became the patriarch of a strong, brilliant and beautiful family. Work the process, be persistent and prosper!
