Each quarter we will introduce you to a Brooker family member who is senior in age. We want you to get to know them, value their experiences and legacies, and learn from them.
We have some really exciting NEWS to share! We are pleased to announce that we, the Brooker Family, have recently established our very own Historic Committee.
Many of us can attest that it was fascinating to learn more about our family heritage during the last reunion. Truly, the Brooker Family has deep roots that span several generations. Like many African-American families, we have a rich heritage of faith and farming that paved the way to survival during an evolving period in America. As a committee, our objective is to reach back to those narratives through the mouths of people who witnessed some of the changes happening in America. Just to hear the various trials they faced, the determination they had, and the pivotal steps they took in order to push our family forward, makes each of us feel proud to belong to the Brooker lineage. It is worth noting that there is much more to unveil about this living legacy of the "Brooker Family," and we are looking for a few committed people to help carry that legacy forward.
Establishing this committee will allow us to take a more in-depth look into our ancestry and the core values they shared. We'll discover what life was like in the early years and what gave the pioneers of our family the tenacity to strive for better, which has ultimately shaped many of our lives today. As a collective group, we will take on initiatives such as putting together an extensive family tree, sitting down with our family’s beloved elders to record stories about the days of old, searching for other preserved documents that hold great significance, gathering memorable photos of the family at different periods of life, and featuring bios of family members that have succeeded in their own right. Just with those we know about, our family includes farmers, entrepreneurs, business professionals, administrators, athletes, coaches, healthcare professionals, lawyers, educators, musicians, entertainers, officers, veterans, ministers, deacons/deaconesses, elected officials, an engineer, an actor/filmmaker, an inventor, and other strong leaders in the community.
We are looking for family members that share similar passions and would like to be a part of this effort to explore and document the next phase of historic truths for our family. The only qualifications needed is a willing heart. If you are interested in being apart, please contact Leo Brooker at 803-295-7749 or email leokbrooker@gmail.com.
Love,
Leo
